I've been using a friend's old therma-rest inflatable sleeping pad on camping trips for the last two years. I finally decided that I needed my own sleeping pad, instead of borrowing one all the time. My only criteria was that it was relatively affordable.

I found the Wenzel Convoluted Camp Pad randomly on Amazon, and for the money it seemed like a product comparable to a lower end offering you might find at a REI / Blue Ridge Mountain Sports / Dicks, etc. On the same note, I feel like this portion of the camping market (sleeping pads) is saturated with overpriced gimmicks. This product was clearly not one of those.

The pad comes rolled up with two elastic bands on the outer ends. I was overwhelmed with how light it was. It was about as heavy as a small cardboard box. In a stiff wind, it might roll or tumble away! While light, it is a little large, so if you don't have loops big enough on your backpack, I'd just clip some lines around the elastic bands that... Found this item perfect for backpacking and it being a light as a feather product, I feel this added comfort when sleeping to be well worth my taking it along. It maybe a large piece, but you will not know its on your back. Campers can put it to use for the shear extra feel out in the woods

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok pad for cheap... but not for side sleepers, March 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Wenzel Convoluted Camp Pad (Green) (Sports)
Pros:
It's affordable and lightweight. Not too wide so fits my 75L pack well. Decent R value for the 20+ degree night I used it on.

Cons:
And this is only a con for an older side sleeper like me. If you are a side sleeper, look into a thicker self inflating or air pad. My hip bone was sore for 2 weeks after sleeping only one night on this pad.

Bottom Line:
Took my 9 year old son on his first camping trip and he had no issues with comfort on this pad, so it's a good product for minimal expense if you are a back sleeper. Side sleepers should look elsewhere in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Regular Rectangle, April 26, 2008

I like Big Agnes products, this air pad packs down extremely small and weighs very little. If you're a gram counter like me, get this pad and don't look back. The only thing I don't really like is the amount of time it takes to blow up and the air valve is somewhat awkward to use especially when you need to tighten it down when your done. I hold the valve in my mouth so that no air escapes and then turn it closed with my fingers. Yes kind of gross but I don't know of any other way to do it. Maybe someday they'll have a one way valve. If you plan on using this with your Big Agnes bag with sleeve make sure you go to REI and test it with your sleeping position. I sleep on my side and find that the bag gets a little tight around the hips, if you sleep on your back, no problems you'll love it. I no longer use my Thermarest because the air core pad has made it obsolete. I subtracted 1 star for the funky valve. Hope this review helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get their sleeping bag too. Best system for big people, August 21, 2010

I bought the Large pad along with the Big Agnes Hog Park sleeping bag, as I'm well over 200 lbs. The Hog Park is rated for 20 degrees. I also have the 40 degree Buffalo Park bag for warmer weather. The pack size of between the two is significant. However, the Hog Park compacts to 10 x 19 and the sleeping bag just barely stuffs in the stuff sack...great job at making the sack as small is needed Big Agnes.

The 40 degree Buffalo Park compacts much smaller that the Hog Park sleeping bag...but, it is only a 40 degree bag. So, buy accordingly.

The pad fits absolutely perfect into the sleeping bag slot..perfect. There's even a cutout in the back for the air valve...great system.

Now, to the pad. True, you have to blow it up. No biggie and I am willing to do that to get a couple more inches off the ground, as apposed to the Therma-Rest units, which are 1.5" thick at the most. I'm a side sleeper and 1.5" ain't going to cut it.

I've already... Read more

I've been backpacking over 15 years, and I love these. I've had one now for 3 years & it's probably been on 6 backpack trips. This one I bought for my 67 year old dad who backpacks with me now and then. I'm 40 years old, so comfortable sleep is important. Get the INSULATED version, worth the money. Lightweight, blows up in 2 mins, durable, packs back up easily, sleep like a real bed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute napper for pre-school, April 19, 2011

I ordered this for my son when he started pre-school this spring. He is three and needed a small sheet & blanket to use at naptime. I loved that this one was one piece so we don't lose things week after week and I liked that it even had a pillow attached with velcro. My son loved that it was Toy Story! He hates naptime at school, but this makes it a little easier for him and the teacher each day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not really a mat, but excellent way to get my toddler to nap!, July 23, 2011
This review is from: Disney Toy Story Sleeping Bag - Slumber Pal and Pillow Set (Misc.)
Like other reviewers, we think this "mat" is way too thin to be considered a mat. It is actually a blanket. We use it over a 2 inch mat and it works just fine for my 20 month old son. The biggest selling point here is that it is a Toy Story nap set. That alone supercedes its thinness for my toddler and he is asleep within minutes and stays asleep! We've washed this twice cautiously on gentle cycle and have had no issues. Overall, worth the money to get my son to nap!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, June 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Disney Toy Story Sleeping Bag - Slumber Pal and Pillow Set (Misc.)
I give it 2 star because this mat make me disppointed. I purchased this mat for my 4 years old son to nap at school,he doesn't like this kind of pillow, so I took it off from mat. The problem I got is velcro straps, they are not only stick to other things after drying but one of them on pillow is warped and edge brocken. Aside from that, velcro straps on mat are exposed without pillow, they are abrasive so that my son's head will be on them and make him uncomfortable if just lay on it.Therefore, I must prepare my son's own pillow to cover velcro straps.Briefly,I and my son both don't like this mat, I will buy another one shortly.
